Vic de Fontenay was born and raised in Alice Springs N.T Australia, and spent his latter school years working after school as a part time life guard at the local Swimming Centre. After leaving school he went back to part time life guarding until he was given the job of swimming pool manager, as the only person with some knowledge of the work, after the encumbent manager resigned. After three years as Swimming Centre Manager and two trips around Australia studying at Swimming Centres and with equipment manufactures, Vic de Fontenay left Australia and went to the United States. He worked in California with a pool service company and studied sewerage treatment. From there he went to England and worked for a large company building & installing filtration systems for Commercial Swimming Pools, sewerage treatment and domestic water treatment, studying part time with the company. He also spent some time working in Israel on the filtration of sewerage effluent for drip irrigation including some time at the Techneon in Hifar. In 1972, Vic de Fontenay returned to Australia and started a business in Alice Springs in swimming pool installations. After a furthur study trip to the USA in 1975, he and his wife opened the towns first pool shop. Vic was also involved in the design & construction of a number of homes in the area. Mr de Fontenay then opened the first Pool Shop in Darwin in 1977 and moved to live in Darwin from 1979 - 1983, operating the Pool Shop and Pool Construction business both in domestic and commercial Swimming Pools. During this time Vic set about putting all he had learnt in to written form & Produced the first A-Z manual & his "Swimming Pool Servicemans Technical Manual" which sold hundreds of copies around the world. Vic de Fontenay sold the Darwin business and moved to Canberra in 1983 where he became involved in work on the Swimming Pools and Fountains for The Australian Institute of Sport and Australia's New Parliament House. Over the following 10 years, Vic Designed & Constructed Fountains, Waterfeatures & Commercial Swimming Facilities for The National Institute of Sport, Schools, Fitness Centres, Shopping Centres Private & Government Buildings & Hotels through out South Eastern Australia. In 1993 Vic de Fontenay moved to Fiji where he was involved in the introduction of new products to the building industry & in the supervision of domestic & commercial construction. As well he designed & Supervised Construction of a number of Resort Swimming Facilities. His work in Australia and now in Fiji has given him the opportunity to work with more types of construction, in more diverse climatic conditions than many others in his field. Upon returning to Australia Vic de Fontenay found the construction Industry had slowed considerably so he looked to other areas in which he had some expertise. Vic de Fontenay carries out information consultancy regarding Swimming Facilities & Waterfeatures for clients via the internet. In January 1998 Vic de Fontenay joined HYDRAMET (SA) PTY LTD, the South Australian, West Australian & Northern Territory agent for Wallace & Tiernan chlorination systems.
